Pistol Pete - What a treat!
Born in the summer of 2023, Pistol Pete made his way into our program on 2/23/26 from Wyoming, MI after a tough stretch on the streets. Just the week prior, he had been dealing with lameness in his right rear leg—later diagnosed as a painful nail bed infection—along with swelling in his right foreleg from bite wounds. His past tells the story of a survivor: old scratches, scrapes, and battle scars, plus a broken, bent “nubbin” tail caused by a healed vertebral injury that leaves it permanently cocked and locked—like a loaded pistol.
It’s clear Pete spent time running with the wrong crowd, as intact males so often do. According to his rescuer, he had been hanging around for nearly a year before finally deciding humans might be worth trusting.
And we’re so glad he did.
Despite everything he’s been through, Pistol Pete is an absolute sweetheart. This handsome, hunky boy doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He craves attention, leans into affection, and has a gentle, easygoing nature that makes him a joy to be around. We’re currently working on helping him regain some healthy weight after battling not one, but two types of intestinal parasites—and he’s well on his way.
Pistol Pete seems to get along with everyone he meets and has a mellow temperament that would allow him to settle comfortably into a variety of homes. He would do well with other cats, children, or even as a companion to another laid-back feline friend.
After spending so long surviving on his own, this sweet boy is more than ready to trade street life for a soft bed, steady meals, and a family to call his own.
