DESCRIPTION

Dash & Stryper
DOB: April 11, 2019
Adopted: 6 months old
Returned: November 17, 2025
Dash and Stryper are gentle souls with a deeply touching—and heartbreaking—story. Adopted together as kittens, they spent most of their lives closely bonded to their person, Joe. After his passing, their world was turned upside down. The boys became increasingly withdrawn, hiding from everyone and becoming nearly untouchable as they struggled to process the loss.
For over two years, they lived in a quiet state of grief—unsure, disconnected, and without the one person they trusted most. They are incredibly timid, often frightened by the smallest changes around them. What they do have, though, is each other. Their bond remains unbreakable, and they take comfort in staying close.

Little by little, Dash and Stryper have begun to show signs of healing. They’ve found some reassurance by quietly cuddling near more confident cats in the Gallery, allowing those companions to gently show them that the world may not be so scary after all. The busier environment, with cozy cubbies to retreat to, has helped them feel safer while still giving them space to observe and explore at their own pace.

It was once our hope that these boys could transition back into a quiet home with a patient, experienced adopter—someone willing to give them the time and understanding they would need to truly blossom again. And while a kind-hearted woman did step forward to give them that chance, it became clear just how deeply sensitive they are to change.

Stryper, overwhelmed by the stress of a new environment, ingested part of a plastic grocery bag and required emergency abdominal surgery. As one can imagine, this traumatic experience set him back significantly, and it became evident that both boys were simply not emotionally equipped to handle another transition.

With heavy hearts—but with their best interests at the forefront—we made the decision to welcome Dash and Stryper back into our program as long-term, Purrmanent residents.

Here, they are safe. Here, they are understood. And here, they can continue to heal at their own pace, surrounded by familiar faces, feline friends, and the quiet consistency they so deeply need.

While they may not be candidates for adoption, Dash and Stryper remain a beautiful reminder of the depth of love and loyalty cats are capable of—and the responsibility we have to meet them where they are, even when that path looks different than we once hoped.
