Domestic Short Hair Cats Available for Adoption

Who has an orange lightning bolt on their head, freckles on toe beans, and is adorably shy. It is none other than Calypso, a 6 month old girl kitten who is half the size of her brother, Whiskey.

Calypso is a kitten who needs a quiet loving home to fully come out of her shell. She enjoys being snuggled up gently in a towel to be held. Once she feels safe, a shy purr can be heard coming from the safety of her towel. Calypso likes gentle soothing pets on her body and head. In the last couple of days, Calypso began making tentative eye contact with her foster mom. Calypso would adore having friendly feline friend(s) who will help her become the best house kitty she can be. Dogs are too much for her.

She prefers small spaces to large open areas for now. In her crate (a large dog wire crate), she has a wine box wrapped with a T-shirt where she sleeps and tucks herself away when too much is happening around her. Calypso can peek through the neck opening while safely checking the world out. She enjoys playing with toys (mice, small stuffies, wands, balls, things with bells) mostly at night. Her foster mom covers the crate on three sides, but at times the whole crate, to help reduce stress for Calypso.

She is eating a mix of Science Diet Kitten and Purina One Kitten food. Greenies or other cat treats are yummy too. Calypso will allow her nails to be clipped though this happens in the bathroom with her wrapped in a towel. I gently pull a foot out, clip nails, then tuck her foot back in and go from there.

Calypso is learning to be an indoor kitten though needs more time and patience to get things done pact. Though doing well with the litterbox, there are times she urinates on her bedding when feeling stressed out. She may revert back to curling in on herself when first in a new home. Please allow Calypso time to adjust, she is well worth the effort.

The 3-3-3 rules for adopting pets is very beneficial to know. It is a guideline for acclimating adopted kittens/cats, first 3 days of decompression (hiding, stress), 3 weeks learning routines (settling in), and 3 months feeling fully at home. It emphasizes patience and providing a safe space to build trust. This process is especially important for kitties like Calypso who is shy.
