DESCRIPTION
Suzie is a special kitty who needs a very special home. Suzie and her brother came to us from Tennessee. They arrived in Colorado with upper respiratory infections which is very common. Suzie had a hard time kicking hers and as it turns out was later diagnosed with FIP – Feline Infectious Peritonitis - which can happen in a small number of cases when the very common coronavirus mutates into a severe inflammatory illness. Thankfully, now there are treatments available for FIP, and Suzie was able to get the medicine she needed to get healthy again. FIP is not contagious to humans but can cause many different symptoms in cats. In her case, it caused severe neurological problems like balance issues, instability, tremors and brain inflammation that caused her to lose her hearing – probably permanently. After several weeks of treatment, her neurological symptoms have improved dramatically. She can still be a little wobbly at times but for the most part, she is a happy, playful, thriving little kitty who loves to play chase. She currently lives with another FIP survivor kitten, who is also deaf, and they romp and play together like crazy! She would do great in a home with a sibling to play with. Deaf kitties can be trained to respond to hand signals. Currently, to avoid startling her, her foster will turn on the lights or stomp loudly on the floor to announce her presence. Suzie can be vocal when she finds herself “alone” in a room. Not being able to hear, she doesn’t always realize when other humans or pets are around, and she definitely prefers to be in the company of another person or pet friend. Suzie is very sweet and really just enjoys playing chase above all else. She will cuddle once she’s comfortable with you but she doesn’t love being held up above the ground. She likes it best when you get down on her level to play and pet her. She can climb but jumping on and off high surfaces can cause her to fall, so perches should be low to the ground until she gets bigger and stronger. Suzie has a bright future and a lot of love to give to a caring family who will provide a safe environment for her to continue on her healing and growing journey.
