Bud (Buddy) is very smart and very sweet brown and white tabby. He lives up to his name and is a great companion cat. While he enjoys his independence and does well when his foster mom is away for the day, he typically likes to be nearby and always needs some lap time during the day. He likes to nap and cuddle with his people, and if you're next to someone else, he will likely try to lay on both of you at the same time. He loves being pet anywhere except his belly; he especially loves head scratches and having his chin rubbed.
Bud is very social and curious and likes to be involved or observing. He enjoys when other people visit and is very friendly, though he may meow incessantly until you/your guest play with him! Once you give him some attention, he's just happy to be nearby, whether on a lap or observing from a cat tree. He's made several friends in the neighborhood who will stop by to play with him in the window or drop peanuts so he can see the squirrels close up.
Bud is very food motivated, and he will try to eat your human food! He especially loves whip cream, so you may find him with cream or foam on his whiskers if you leave your latte unattended. One of the cutest things he does is look at you and lick his lips to let you know he's hungry. It happens a lot, but it's always adorable. If you want to see a trick, toss him a treat, which he will happily try to catch mid-air. Because he is so food motivated, Bud does best with a few small meals throughout the day and benefits from a slow feeder. Although he is young (estimated DOB 10/14/2024), he is a large fellow. He is several inches longer than the average cat, which means he needs an extra-large litter box.
Bud loves play time and needs lots of it, as he is still quite young and energetic. He will play with most toys and likes to run and jump and stalk his prey. He also loves the laser pointer - make sure when you let him “catch” it when you’re done! He loves being praised for catching things; his foster mom rewards him with an enthusiastic “You got it!” and a meal or treat after he makes a final, successful leap for the laser pointer. Some of Bud’s dislikes include being separated from people, getting his nails trimmed, belly rubs, being held for more than a minute or two, pellet litter, the vacuum cleaner, and people leaving without saying goodbye!
While he hasn’t been around other animals in our care, we think that he would benefit from another pet in the home due to his young age and energetic nature. As always, a slow, deliberate introduction leads to a successful integration.
Bud is still a young cat with lots of companionship and entertainment to give. Bud is also FIV+. He is a friendly, playful cat who can be adopted into a home with other cats who are FIV+ or FIV-.
What Should You Know About FIV:
Humans and dogs cannot catch FIV. It is exclusively a feline virus that can only be spread to other cats through blood. This typically only occurs during very rough fights, which is why it is most common in cats who have lived on the streets. An FIV+ cat is very unlikely to spread the virus to an FIV- cat while play-fighting.
FIV is not a "sickness.” There are no medications or special treatment of any kind required. The only noticeable effect of FIV is a weakened immune system, so cats who are FIV+ should not go outside.
