Dusty lost the only home-and person-he had ever known. Now he's hoping for a second chance.

At 8 years old, Dusty arrived at Homeward Bound after his elderly owner passed away. He had spent his entire life indoors with the same person, likely never even seeing a veterinarian. Then, heartbreakingly, Dusty was left alone in the home for more than two days before help arrived.

Suddenly, the quiet world he knew was filled with strangers, police, coroner personnel and chaos. He hid from everyone.

And who could blame him?

But underneath that fear is the sweetest, most gentle boy. Once Dusty trusts you, he LOVES attention. He makes beautiful eye contact, happily accepts pets and scratches from neck to tummy, and will even flop onto his back for a full-body rub.

He's still very shy and spends much of his time tucked away, but he always comes out for the person he trusts-especially when food is involved! His foster caregiver says his friendliness leaves no doubt that, in the right environment, Dusty will blossom.

He'd love a quiet, peaceful home with someone patient who understands that trust takes time. A mellow household where Dusty can finally exhale, feel safe and discover that life can be good again.

This sweet boy has lost enough. Now he just needs someone willing to give him time, love and a place to belong.
