***Beaux is best friends with Tara, a fellow fluffy mommacat; the two lean on each other for security and support, and would love to continue their journey together. Beaux needs the company of other cats, and cannot be adopted alone.
One thing we know for certain is that Beaux does not like to be alone. She lived for the first few years of her life outside with other cats who were likely her kin in some fashion or another, and was the de facto community momma/auntie cat who scooped up kittens abandoned by young, wayward mommas, to nurse and protect like her own. She was often seen in the company of Tara, another long-haired beauty who also joined in the communal care of the ever expanding kitten population. Now in foster together, Beaux will call out for Tara if she loses sight of her.
Beaux was rescued when she went into a trap meant to round up the kittens. Good thing too, as we suspected she was pregnant yet again. After she calmed down, Beaux submitted to being petted and her belly palpated by the rescuer without protest or defensive posturing, purring softly to soothe herself or we hoped, in appreciation of her new world. She is by nature timid and very shy, her behaviour a reflection of the years spent dodging dangers and protecting her babies. Learning to navigate the inside world is a challenge Beaux is slowly and cautiously exploring; aided by the offers of treats and the comforting presence of Tara, she inches closer to pick up treats, but is still wary of people and their intentions. Patience, time, understanding and generosity are what Beaux is hoping her forever family will gift her, so she can truly relax into the safe space they provide.
With Tara’s more outgoing interactions with people as example, Beaux knows that people mean good things, but still have to overcome her ingrained fear. Food is a huge motivator, and Beaux sets the tone by meowing quietly in the morning when it’s breakfast time, as she eagerly waits for the first meal of the day. Food and treats will definitely be the crucial bridge to connect with this shy, skittish cat, and we have hope that Beaux will soon be convinced that there is nothing to fear, but everything to gain.
Shy cats are actually cats who demand very little from their family, and are content with the basics of survival. Knowing that Beaux no longer has to fend for herself and the kittens in her charge, and can finally have a future safe and sound from dangers and privations, is gratifying for all of us who played a part in her rescue. It is now up to you to continue smoothing the way for this docile and timidly sweet cat to really blossom into the beautiful and kind cat we can all clearly see.
One cat at a time — that is our motto — and we hope that is yours too.
