Our rescue is based out of Pikesville, Maryland!
We typically do not adopt more than 45 minutes away from Pikesville, so please bear that in mind! Also, if you are viewing this cat on Petfinder, note that ALL of our animals are spayed/neutered despite what it says.
Beauty - so named for obvious reasons - was being fed by a kindly resident after making her way to her home as a stray. When we got her, she had some pretty nasty matting on different parts of her body, and an open wound in her right armpit most likely from either a mat that got ripped out or a collar that got stuck under that arm.
Beauty has had a procedure to repair the wound and still has a bit of recovering to do on that front. We will continue to oversee her medical care, but she can go to a foster to adopt situation in the meantime. Please note that the vet we are using is located in Mount Airy.
Beauty is thought to be young, maybe around a year old. She is on the small side, but looks bigger due to all her fluff. Her health is excellent in general. Due to the long time she spent outdoors, Beauty can take awhile to warm up to people. When she does, she is a very sweet and lovely girl who enjoys being petted and sitting on your lap (not sure she will volunteer to do this as strict crate rest has been required since surgery, but she definitely tolerates it).
This girl current spends a lot of time sitting in a little shelf bed/hammock. She does enjoy toys and plays with them but is shy about it when humans are around. She does not currently approach for attention, but will usually accept it.
A somewhat skittish cat, Beauty startles easy. She requires an experienced and quiet home with lots of patience for her. She can be quirky, and sometimes hisses and swats. We suspect that this may be because of the presence of other cats in her foster home, as she is a lot sweeter at the vet. She can also be confused for the first couple days in a new place regarding where to go to the bathroom. This has happened twice: first when brought into rescue, then when transferred to a larger crate. After a day or so, especially with showing her where the litter is by putting some of her poop in there, she has been good with the box. Any adopter should expect to experience this learning curve with her in a new home.
In short: Beauty is a sweet but sometimes temperamental cat who needs a quiet and cat savvy family. She may or may not get along with other cats, but should be able to coexist with one or two if given plenty of her own space. To prevent recurrences of matting, she will require regular brushing. If brushing under her armpits is not possible, she may need to be taken for grooming.
Needs Must Cats will have received full vetting including spay or neuter, FIV/FLV testing, microchip, and treatment for parasites by time of adoption. The adoption fee in the amount below helps us assist more cats and kittens in urgent need. These fees do not even begin to cover our expenses so please consider making an additional donate to support our life-saving efforts!
