Hi, my name is Kiwi! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Chatty, intelligent, social
-Lifespan: 7 - 15 years
-Can Live With Kids: Yes, but an adult must be Kiwi's primary caregiver
-Experienced Bird Home: Yes, as a single parakeet Kiwi will need to be adopted by someone who already has a parakeet (or multiple parakeets!) she can be friends with.
-Can Live With Other Birds: Yes, parakeets are naturally flock birds and should never live alone. Kiwi will need to be adopted by someone who already has parakeets.
-Additional information:
Kiwi is a lonely parakeet looking for her flock! She was found flying around in the snow - wet, cold, and scared. Luckily someone was able to catch her and bring her to WHS. Since Kiwi came in by herself, she's going to need to be adopted by someone who already has parakeet(s). She will need her own cage for a while, but once everyone is comfortable she can be moved in with her new buddies! If you don't have experience introducing parakeets, feel free to ask staff for advice.
We require proof of appropriate enclosure for all small animals before adoption.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
