DESCRIPTION
Meet Rico! This handsome fella, who is estimated to be around 15 years old, came to us from one of our local animal control partners and so his history is a little fuzzy. Luckily for us, Rico has told us everything that we need to know about him so that we can match him with the best forever home. Playful and active, Rico enjoys having his cage door open so that he can see all of the exciting action going on around him. He needs to be front and center, so that everyone can admire his beautiful feathers and dancing skills. Once comfortable with his favorite person, he will step up happily and readily, cuddling right up into their chest. Rico is a wonderful macaw and will make someone a great companion! He can be loud at times so he will need understanding regarding flock call behaviors (no shared walls or apartments). He loves attention, whether you are giving him treats, watching him play with his toys or holding and petting him. One of his favorite things to do is playing "fetch" with his favorite person, which involves him taking a ball and tossing it from his stand or perch. He seems to prefer a single person (female) so far in his current foster home, so this will be something to consider with those who apply for him. He bonds and bonds hard, so patience, preservation, and socialization will be key for those wanting to earn his trust. He eats his pelleted diet very well and likes fresh fruits, vegetables and dehydrated banana chips (his absolute favorite). Someone who has previous bird experience would be best for him, so they can recognize his body language when he is afraid or overstimulated. The perfect household for Rico would be one that would provide him with plenty of interaction, out of cage time, and won't be bullied by typical macaw bluffing behaviors. Adoption fee: $700
