Macaw Birds Available for Adoption

Meet Geronimo, a striking Blue and Gold Macaw with a big voice, strong opinions, and an even bigger heart.

Geronimo is hand tame and continues to make progress with stepping up, especially once he is out of his cage. He is very cage protective and needs an adopter who understands and respects that boundary. Once he is out of and away from his cage, he is a well behaved, engaging bird who truly enjoys being part of the action.

Being out of his cage is where Geronimo shines. He loves spending time in open spaces, watching the world go by, and interacting with his people. He is not especially interested in being held, but he very much enjoys companionship, conversation, and simply being nearby. His absolute favorite thing in the world is his swing, which he is completely obsessed with and happily spends long stretches enjoying.

Geronimo is extremely vocal and will not be a good fit for homes with shared walls. He talks frequently and confidently, especially saying "Mo," along with "hello," "cracker," and "pretzel." Bath time tends to bring out his loudest opinions, and he makes sure everyone knows how he feels. He tolerates bathing, even if he is not thrilled about it.

He eats Zupreem Natural pellets and loves fruits and vegetables. His favorite treats include apples, grapes, and cantaloupe. He is continuing his transition to a healthy routine in foster care.

Geronimo would do best in a home with large bird experience, where his need for routine, respect, and enrichment are well understood. With the right adopter who can read his cues and honor his boundaries, Geronimo is a sweet, expressive macaw who has the potential to become a deeply rewarding companion and a true centerpiece of the home.
