Dusty the cockatiel is a classic young cockatiel-- a little bit cautious, a little bit wary, but with music in his soul! Dusty is your typical 'tiel. He's just getting used to being handled. He can be fearful of hands (especially fingers) and does the sassy cockatiel hiss to let you know. We love an advocate for boundaries!
While he has become more comfortable in his foster home and enjoys coming out of his cage to play, he needs some time to warm up to the idea initially, especially in a new place. As a boundary king, Dusty isn't quick to break skin-- he appreciates letting you know how he's feeling in his own cockatiel way (nipping if overstimulated, or that very clear hiss).
He currently has two distinct songs he sings, but a budding artist is always working on more-- in fact, he has a specific vocalization to let you know it's time for bed! Some of his favorite activities are free flying around the home once comfortable, and enjoying that classic 'tiel vice, millet sprays-- he may even choose to fly to a shoulder and climb onto a head when feeling really confident!
Dusty isn't overly loud, so could do well in a home with shared walls. But please no other birds at this time-- Dusty prefers his own personal space (boundaries, remember?) and would prefer to be a single bird for now, though may come to be interested in other birds in the future.
