DESCRIPTION

Meet Chile, an older Amazon who might just be the friendliest of his species that you will ever meet. Although we don't know how old he is, we estimate him to be at least older than twenty due to his health issues. Chile came into STAR as a transfer from another shelter, along with two other birds, as part of a massive hoarding case involving nearly 200 animals. When Chile first came to us, he was underweight, had difficulty perching, and seemed to have some sort of infection in one of his eyes. He has settled into foster care well, but the result of his prolonged exposure to poor living conditions has definitely caught up with him. He has limited range of motion in his legs, a heart murmur, and a persistent eye infection that is currently being treated by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Despite all of this, Chile remains sweet and loving! His foster family reports that he loves head scratches, is really good about stepping up, and enjoys hanging out on a playstand and chatting away. He is indifferent towards other birds in his home and tolerates children, although he definitely prefers his foster mom! Because of his health issues, Chile would do best in a household that is prepared to continue providing medical care to him. His veterinarians suspect that his eye issues will be a chronic challenge, so it is important that his medication remain consistent and he is offered regular vet visits. Don't worry, though - Chile has been a star patient for his foster family! He is easy to handle and medicate, especially when offered cuddles afterwards. Does Chile sound like the bird for you? Adoption fee - $400.
