Mica is an absolutely adorable 1 year old English Spot mix. He is sweet and a little timid at first, but once he will approach for attention (and treats). He loves forehead scratches and body rubs, and while he certainly prefers his feet to stay on the floor, he tolerates handling well!
Mica loves to play. Stacking cups are his favorite and often end up in the water dish as he gets a little overzealous throwing them around. He also loves tunnels, hideys, and cardboard-based chew toys.
Mica LOVES food. This is the way to win his heart. He sprints over at breakfast and dinner so that he can inhale his pellets. He also eats lots of hay and drinks a ton of water. Like many rabbits with his markings, he has megacolon, a condition in which the intestines don't absorb water and nutrients as well as other bunnies, and where food takes longer to wind it's way through because the muscles in the gut may struggle to contract normally. As a result, bunnies with megacolon are more prone to tummy troubles and typically have larger, softer, and sometimes misshapen poops. The key to managing megacolon is to have a very healthy diet with high quality pellets to ensure they get all the nutrients they need. They also need lots of hay to get plenty of fiber, and big bowls of water to make sure they stay hydrated. In general, treats should be avoided as high sugar can set them off, but herbs can be a great way to add variety to their diets and some herbs might even be helpful in keeping their guts moving. Before adopting a bun with megacolon, we would highly recommend looking into the condition to make sure you know what to expect and how to best care for them so they live long and happy lives.
