Little Pirate is a sweet senior gentleman who was found as a stray in Philadelphia, seemingly abandoned in someone's front yard.
Little Pirate appears to be mostly blind due to mature cataracts in both eyes, with one eye very unhealthy and needing advanced care. He is also suffering from severe dental disease, chronic ear infections, and significant arthritis. He will need bloodwork to help us better understand his overall health, but Little Pirate can absolutely be made comfortable with proper medical care and lots of love.
Sadly, the years of medical neglect he must have faced have left him in pain for an unknown amount of time from conditions that could have been treated or prevented. His painful eye and diseased teeth can be surgically removed to provide relief, his chronic ear infections can be treated, and his arthritis can be evaluated for underlying causes and then medically managed to help keep him comfortable
Little Pirate may need to join our Hospice Program, depending on what his bloodwork reveals. But he may also be able to receive the care he needs and still have many golden years ahead of him- years spent loved, comfortable, and cherished in a forever home, just as he deserves.
We don't know what Little Pirate's life looked like before he came to us, but stories like his are not about holding on longer than we should or easing human emotions. They are about giving dogs happiness, dignity, comfort, and love at the end of their lives- and making sure that, even if only for a short time, they know just how wonderful life can be.
