Yorkshire Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption in New York, New York

HAZEL

Yorkshire Terrier
🇺🇸
New York, New York
April 26th
female, small, adult

DESCRIPTION

Hazel was surrendered to the New York Animal Care Center, the NYC Municipal shelter due to her owners having too many animals.

After being with a family for seven years, she was dumped in a noisy shelter and lost in a sea of animals.

She was terrified, avoidant and trying to disappear.

We were fortunate one of tried and true fosters came to her rescue.

Hazel has acclimated so beautifully in her foster home and now ready to find her forever home.

Here are Hazel's STATS:

Approximate age 7 years old
Approximate weight 13 lbs
Breed (s) We think Yorkie, Carin Terrier but who knows
Spayed or neutered? Spayed

Good with:
kids? Unknown, but as a very small, older dog I would be very cautious of letting children be around her as they could easily hurt her. We would say older children about 13.

strangers? Hazel is initially hesitant around new people, may even bark at a couple of times, but when she gets to know someone, she is good around them.

other dogs? Yes, Hazel is good with dogs as long as they are not big and rough, and don’t step all over her. She is currently living with other dogs ranging from 20-30 lbs, and she gets along well.

cats? Hazel gets along fine with cats

On leash? Hazel is small and likes to sniff about, but if you stay at her pace, she is great on a leash

Housetrained? Yes, Hazel is housebroken.
Crate trained? No, Hazel hates being put in a crate, which I only do when I leave the house for a while.

Paper trained? I don’t know as I don’t use paper

Hazel would be happiest in a quiet home with adults who treat her gently and don’t leave her alone all day she would be happy with a dog companion as long as they were comparable in size and medium to low energy.

Hazel is very silly she likes to roll around in blankets, on rugs, and in leaves. Hazel loves sitting on a lap and jumps onto one every chance she gets. Once in a while Hazel will give her dog bed or stuffed toy a good shaking before deciding it is obedient. She LOVES a good treat to eat!!! She doesn’t realize how small she is, so she barks at noises outside as though it will scare them away, but she doesn’t bark excessively

Hazel takes a few minutes to warm up to new people so slow approaches are needed, but that should be done with every dog. Hazel is small so long hikes are probably not her thing, but who knows; maybe they are

Hazel is a wonderful little granny, which is what I call her because she acts like one. She walks around doing her own thing, sniffing and exploring. She wants attention, but also likes doing her own thing once she has settled in. If I didn’t have dogs of my own already, I’d adopt her myself!
