Lafonda's story
This sweet girl arrived at the shelter as a stray, and heartbreakingly, no one came looking for her.

We estimate Lafonda to be about 4 years old and around 57 pounds.
Right now, Lafonda is scared. Really scared.
The shelter is loud, overwhelming, and full of unfamiliar faces.
When our volunteers first tried to take her for a walk, she wasnt quite sure what to think. We didn't push her. Instead, we gave her the one thing she desperately needed... time.
Day by day, were seeing little glimpses of the dog hiding beneath all that fear. A tiny tail wag. A cautious step forward. A moment where she leans in for a gentle pet before retreating back into her shell. Those small victories mean everything.
Taking pictures of Lafonda has been difficult because shes still so unsure of her surroundings. Her tail stays tucked tightly, and shes still figuring out if she can trust us. But every now and then, she gives us those little tail wags that tell us shes trying. She wants to trust. She wants to feel safe. She just doesnt know how yet.
And honestly? We believe this girl would absolutely blossom outside of the shelter environment. Sometimes the sweetest dogs simply cannot shine while living in a kennel.

Approximately 57 pounds
Older, respectful children would be best
Not cat tested
Doesn't seem bothered by dogs walking past her kennel
Needs patience, kindness, and a calm environment

Have a resident dog at home? Don't let that stop you from considering Lafonda. While she has not been officially dog tested yet, we would be more than happy to arrange a meet and greet with your dog to see if they could be friends.
Every dog is different, and wed love the opportunity to learn more about her.
If you have a quiet home and would be willing to foster, even temporarily, we would be so grateful. Giving Lafonda a chance to decompress outside of the shelter could truly change her life.

The shelter is no place for a dog carrying this much fear on her shoulders.
We have a feeling there is a wonderful dog hiding behind those worried eyes. She just needs someone willing to give her the time and grace to let that dog shine through.
