Meet Quinn

Quinn is a 3–4 year old Shetland Sheepdog with a deeply devoted heart and a gentle, sensitive nature. His previous owner was his entire world, and when she was no longer able to care for him, the difficult decision was made to find him a new home. As a result, Quinn is navigating a lot of “firsts” right now, new environments, new routines, and new people, and it can feel overwhelming at times.

At his core, Quinn is a true velcro dog. He bonds closely with his person and wants to be by your side as much as possible. Once you’ve earned his trust, he will follow you anywhere and is willing to try new things, as long as he knows he’s safe with you.

Quinn can be shy when meeting new people, especially men. He tends to be more open to women but still needs patience and time to build confidence. His response is rooted in avoidance and anxiety. Because of this, Quinn would do best in a quiet, structured home, ideally with a woman or female-led household.

He would also benefit greatly from having a calm, confident older dog companion. Another dog can help show him routines, build his confidence, and provide reassurance as he continues to adjust to the world around him.

Quinn has had limited exposure to everyday experiences. He is new to walking on a leash and is currently learning what that means, sometimes enthusiastically (and accidentally running into you!). He knows basic commands like his name and “sit,” and he is fully house-trained with no accidents. He is also crate trained, although he strongly prefers being with his person and may resist going into the crate at first.

Because of his attachment, Quinn does experience separation anxiety. He can become very distressed if he cannot find his person and will need a home where someone is present most of the time. A work-from-home or home-based lifestyle would be ideal for him. With consistency and training, he can learn to be more comfortable alone, but this will take time and patience.

Quinn is also a classic Sheltie when it comes to communication, he loves to bark and “talk” about everything! Whether it’s a sound, movement, or even his own reflection, Quinn has something to say. His future home should be prepared (and amused!) by a very vocal companion.

Despite his sensitivities, Quinn has a playful and affectionate side. He loves toys, especially soft ones he can enthusiastically deconstruct, and enjoys carrying his ball around proudly. He seems to understand fetch but can be selective, likely due to distraction or overstimulation. Above all, he is a big cuddle bug who enjoys being close to his person.

Quinn is approximately 29 lbs, recently neutered, and will be fully up to date on vaccinations shortly. He is simply a dog who needs guidance, patience, and a steady environment to thrive.

Ideal Home for Quinn:

...Quiet, low-traffic household
...Experienced dog owner (preferably familiar with herding breeds)
...Work-from-home or someone home most of the time
...Another calm, older dog is a plus
...Older children only, due to his size awareness and sensitivity
...Commitment to continued training and confidence-building
... A Fenced Yard

Quinn is not a “plug-and-play” dog but for the right person, he will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and rewarding companion. He just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and help him grow.
