Shar Pei Dogs Available for Adoption in Lake Forest, California

Smudge is a good boy that ended up with a skin condition and eyelid issues that likely landed him in the shelter. This handsome guy is just over a year old, according to our vet, and is a tad underweight at 43 pounds.

Well, his new life is here. He navigated our let's office like a champ on day 1 out of the shelter, greeting strangers like friends! We are going to get him on some good food, medicated baths and are setting up neuter and eyelid entropion surgeries for him soon.

In the meantime, we have learned he is super friendly, is fine around other dogs (mostly ignores them in favor of people), does get a little queasy in the car (drooling only) and is an all-around gentleman.

We will post more as we learn about Smudge. He is fostering in the SF Bay greater area.

The Shar Pei is a distinctive breed known for their deep wrinkles and blue black tongue. Originally from China, these medium sized dogs are loyal, independent, and protective of their families. Shar Peis have a unique appearance with a hippopotamus like face and a broad, padded muzzle. Their coat can be either horse coat or brush coat, coming in a variety of colors. While they can be aloof with strangers, Shar Peis are devoted companions with a calm demeanor, making them wonderful family pets.
