Update:
Rusty has made incredible progress in foster care and is learning that people can be trusted. He has discovered that he loves human attention and affection, and he enjoys being close to his people. Now that he's becoming more comfortable, he's also starting to learn appropriate boundaries when seeking attention. Because Rusty is still gaining confidence, this will take patience, consistency, and continued positive reinforcement. Rusty's adoption fee is $400.
Rusty is overcoming his nervousness more every day, but he will need a family that understands his journey and is willing to give him the time and support he needs to continue building confidence.
One of the biggest signs of Rusty's growing confidence is that he has found his voice! He enjoys keeping an eye on his surroundings when he is outside and likes to let his family know when neighbors are nearby. Rusty takes his role as watchdog seriously and wants to make sure his people are aware of what's going on around him.
He is almost completely house-trained. The only accidents he has indoors occur when he's feeling nervous or anxious. His foster uses a belly band to help prevent these nervous accidents, and it has been very successful—Rusty has not had accidents while wearing it.
Rusty is a sweet, loving dog who is looking for a patient and caring home. He would do best in a home with a securely fenced backyard where he can feel safe and comfortable. He is currently a little unsure about walking on a leash, but with continued training and encouragement, he is expected to make great progress.
Rusty has all the makings of a wonderful family companion for someone willing to invest a little time and patience in helping him fully overcome his fears. In return, you'll gain a loyal, affectionate friend who is ready to keep blossoming in a loving home.

When Rusty first meets new people, he can be shy and scared. But once he feels comfortable, his whole personality blossoms. He becomes affectionate, loves being petted, and wants to stay close to his humans. Watching him learn to trust is truly special.
Rusty is a quiet little guy who rarely barks. He's also still learning how to walk on a leash, and his foster family is helping him build confidence every day. He is doing well with potty training, but when he gets scared or overwhelmed, he may pee a little.
Because of his timid nature, Rusty would do best in a calm home with children ages 10+ and a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore and feel comfortable.
