Cowboy is a 5 year old, 13lb, pomeranian/chi mix (maybe - seems like it!). He is a super laid back, chill little guy. He likes ot spend his days lounging, napping, snuggling, and being your errand buddy.
We aren't sure what his background is but he was found being dumped in a trailer park. He immediately tried to find a human to help him. He is a people pup. He really cares about his people.
Cowboy is a velcro pup and would gladly nap in your lap all day. He enjoys a sniffy walk around the neighborhood and gently playing with his toys.
Cowboy does just fine co-existing with other dogs, but he would likely prefer to be a solo pup! He really prefers humans over other dogs and doesn't love high energy dogs in his space. But, he would also be perfectly fine in a home with another laid back pup.
He has not been exposed to cats or kids, so we would say a no cat or kid home would be best for this guy.
He is great with all people and has not exhibited stranger danger. He is hesitant in new places but goes without issues (like the vet or the groomer).
Cowboy is currently working on house training - he was recently neutered and we expect to see improvement with his marking, a typical behavior of unaltered males.
He is crated when his human leaves the house, and while he protests initially, he settles in quickly. He does get vocal as soon as he hears a human back in the house. He is not currently crated at night and prefers to sleep with his human in bed. He enjoys burrowing under the covers.
Cowboy LOVES the car and is such a good road trip buddy. He settles into his little dog booster seat and enjoys the ride.
Cowboy's ideal home would be somewhere that is pretty laid back without a lot of chaos - whether that be someone who works from home or someone who is retired and looking for a little buddy. He would love to have his own zen den where he can decompress away from any chaos.
Cowboy is:
- approx 5 years old
- 13lbs
- Low energy
- Great with all people (has not met kids)
- Good with dogs but would prefer a solo home or with laid back dogs
- Not cat tested
- Good in the car
- Good on leash
Medical: Cowboy's bloodwork was great but urinalysis did show crystals in his urine. We have him on a fresh food diet to encourage water intake and will do another urinalysis. If no improvement, we will put him on a specific diet to treat crystals. Adopters should be prepared that he may need to be on a RX food for the rest of his life if crystals do not improve.
*PLEASE NOTE: all of our dogs are fostered in Houston, TX, where our rescue is based. However, we work with trusted transport partners to transport our dogs to over 30 cities in the United States. Additionally, adopters are always encouraged to come to Houston to pick up the pup and bring them home. Once an adoption is confirmed, our team will work with you to determine the best transport schedule.
If you're interested in adopting Cowboy, please head to www.pippyspals.com/adopt and fill out our adoption application. If our team thinks you could be a good fit, our Adoptions Director will email you to set up a Zoom call, the first step in our consideration process.
