What we know: 8 puppies born in care to Mama Winnie on 3/1/26. 5M, 3F. Winnie was originally brought into a NM shelter as a stray and came to CPR estimated 45 days pregnant and HW+. Puppies cannot get heartworm disease from their mother. While it is possible for them to be born with immature worms, they cannot mature into adult worms without passing through a mosquito. Puppies are also dewormed as soon as they're old enough.
