Meet Violet, a 5-month-old Potcake puppy from the Dominican Republic looking for her forever home.
At just 20 lbs, Violet is a petite bundle of joy with a huge personality. She loves everyone she meets, enjoys playing with other dogs, and is happiest when she's carrying around one of her beloved stuffies like a prized possession. She also loves chewing on Benebones and is wonderful during quiet time, happily relaxing on her bed with a chew.
Violet is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks beautifully on leash. She's an affectionate girl who loves cuddling up on her blankets with her people. While she's a relatively quiet puppy and does well crated when left alone, she is still very much a puppy with lots of energy. She loves to run, jump, and chase anything that moves, especially bugs on her evening walks! Violet does have a strong prey drive and is still learning not to be mouthy, so her future family must be committed to continuing her training and providing structure and boundaries.
Violet's story is nothing short of incredible. At only 8 weeks old, she was found by a close friend of ours in the Dominican Republic covered in ticks and critically ill, just days from death. After months of dedicated veterinary care, love, and rehabilitation, she has made a remarkable recovery and is now thriving. This is all thanks to a very special friend of ours who was determined to save Violets life while on a volunteer trip to DR.
Violet tested positive for two tick-borne diseases, Anaplasma spp. and Ehrlichia spp. She was treated in the DR, her current bloodwork is good, and she is asymptomatic. She may continue to test positive long-term, so her adopters must keep her on year-round flea and tick prevention to avoid reinfection. Potential adopters are encouraged to research these diseases.
If you're looking for a resilient, affectionate, playful companion with an incredible spirit, Violet may be your perfect match.
Violet is spayed, up to date on puppy vaccines, has clear bloodwork and a negative fecal test. Her adoption fee is $700. To apply to adopt Violet, please fill out an application on our website http://www.dogwoodanimalrescue.com
