Penelope - Mixed Breed Dog Available for Adoption in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

PENELOPE

Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
June 4th
female, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Goodest dog alert! Penelope is currently in foster care, and looking for a foster sitter from the afternoon of June 25th to evening of Sunday June 28th! Please email foster@phillypaws.org to learn more about foster sitting for this sweet girl.

She's also ready to find her adoptive home!

Penelope is 80 pounds of love. She is extremely affectionate, gentle, and friendly, and we suspect would do well in a home with children and other dogs with slow introductions. Her experience with cats is limited, but we also suspect she could live with cats that are comfortable around dogs.
Penelope's favorite activities include chewing on stuffie dog toys and going for walks around the neighborhood. She is housebroken and knows some commands like sit and paw.

Penelope prefers to be with her people, and the ideal home would help her build her skills to self soothe and regulate for times when she is alone, since her foster has noticed sometimes experiences distress when left alone. Penelope currently takes two common mediations for stress that are easily administered in her food to help with this stress.

Penelope arrived at PAWS after being found stray, and without a microchip. She's already spayed and estimated to be between 5-6 years old. Our vets suspect she had a broken leg at some point in her life, which results in a slight hitch in her step when she walks and can make her a bit hesitant to walk up and down stairs, but generally this doesn't stop her from enjoying playtime and fetch. She's currently recovering from pneumonia in foster care, and since she is healing well we expect she will be finished her treatment shortly.

This dog is considered a mixed breed because it's not accurate to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. We get to know each dog as an individual and strive to make matches based on personality, not on breed label.

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
