DESCRIPTION
This adorable little girl recently transferred to BENCHS from another shelter and is now searching for the family she has always deserved. At just five and a half months old and a little under 20 pounds, Sissy is still very much a puppy with plenty of growing left to do, but she already has the cutest long little body and short legs that make us wonder if there might be some Dachshund or even Basset Hound mixed into her somewhere.
Shelter life has been a big adjustment for Sissy, and she is still learning how to feel confident in such a busy environment filled with new sounds, routines, and unfamiliar people. Beneath her shy moments is an incredibly sweet and friendly puppy who truly wants to connect with people once she feels safe. One of the fastest ways to win Sissy over is with snacks, because this girl is VERY treat motivated and always excited to see what goodies you might have for her.
Sissy has a soft and gentle personality, and watching her slowly come out of her shell has been incredibly rewarding for our staff. She is looking for a patient and loving home willing to continue helping her build confidence while showing her that the world can be kind and predictable. We truly believe there is a playful, happy little dog waiting to fully bloom once she settles into the right environment.
Her adorable low-to-the-ground body only adds to her charm, and honestly, she is impossible not to smile at when she waddles around exploring the world with those little legs. Whatever breeds make up Sissy, one thing is certain: she is absolutely full of potential and deserves a family willing to love her through the growing process.
Because of Sissy's long torso and possible Dachshund-type build, we are recommending a home without children under the age of 6. Dogs with long backs can be more prone to spinal injuries, especially if they are accidentally carried incorrectly or handled too roughly by small children, so we want to help keep Sissy as safe and healthy as possible as she continues to grow.
Sissy is hoping to find an active indoor home where she can continue learning, exploring, cuddling, and becoming the wonderful dog she is meant to be. We think her very best days are still ahead of her.
ABOUT: DACHSHUND DOG BREED
The dachshund is a small dog breed known for its long body, short legs, and distinctive appearance. Originally bred for hunting badgers, these playful and loyal dogs make loving companions for families. Dachshunds come in three coat varieties smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired each with its own unique charm. Despite their size, dachshunds are bold and courageous, with a curious nature that can sometimes lead to mischief. Their endearing personality and adaptability make them popular pets worldwide.
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
