Peter Rabbit is a 1-year-old and 13 lb Maltipoo who has been through more than his fair share in such a short life, but you would never know it from how loving and gentle he is.
Peter was born in an accidental litter in Los Angeles, and at just 2 months old he was rehomed by a local rescuer. Sadly, the home he went to did not provide the care he needed. He was left severely matted, unfixed, unvaccinated, and spent much of his time confined to a crate. When that owner decided they no longer wanted him, they reached back out to the same rescuer and threatened to take him to a city shelter if she did not take him back. She stepped in, fostered him, and connected with Shelter Hope so he could finally receive the care and fresh start he deserved. Sadly, Peter was so matted and filthy, he had to be shaved down to the skin.
Safe at last, he is finally getting the chance to just be a dog, and his beautiful personality is shining through more each day.
Peter is incredibly affectionate, sweet, and deeply devoted to his people. He forms strong bonds and loves nothing more than being close, whether he is following you around the house or curled up beside you on the couch. He has a gentle, loving nature, with a playful and energetic side that comes out when he feels safe and happy. He is good with kids, and does well with most other dogs, though he can be a bit scared when meeting new ones at first. With time and patience, he warms up. He has also spent time around cats and is curious without being reactive. His foster also let us know that he seems to be potty trained.
Because of his past, Peter is fearful of crates, sensitive to loud noises, and does experience some separation anxiety. He will do best in a home that can provide consistency, patience, and plenty of companionship to help him continue building confidence and feeling secure.
Despite everything he has been through, Peter is resilient, trusting, and full of love. He is the kind of dog who will truly bond with his person and become a loyal, affectionate companion. If you are looking for a soft, snuggly, loving little shadow who will be endlessly devoted, Peter Rabbit is your guy!
