Bentley – 1 year old, 25 lbs, Maltipoo mix

Bentley’s story is complicated, especially for such a young dog who has already been through so much in his short life.

Bentley and his friend, who has already been adopted, were surrendered to rescue after their owner wanted Bentley euthanized because of a multiple bite history. Bentley had bitten a few people, and because of that, his life was almost over before it had really begun.

We decided to give this little boy a chance.

His friend quickly found a home because he was much easier and more social. Bentley, however, was deeply afraid of strangers. When his foster mom first brought him home, he would hide in his crate, lunge if someone tried to pull him out, and attempt to bite out of fear. He was terrified and did not know how to trust people.

But after just a few days, something changed. Bentley bonded deeply with his foster mom and now allows her to do absolutely anything with him. He has never once tried to bite her or act aggressively toward her.

With his person, Bentley is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, gentle, and loving little dog. He desperately wants love and security and forms very deep attachments to the people he trusts. He is completely safe with his trusted humans.

However, Bentley remains cautious and fearful around strangers, so he will require an experienced owner who understands fearful dogs and knows how to properly manage introductions and build trust slowly and safely.

Bentley does well with other dogs and, with slow and respectful introductions, could likely live with cats as well.

He needs a calm adult home, a securely fenced yard, and most importantly, a patient person willing to earn his trust.

And once Bentley loves you, he will love you with his whole little heart.
