What we know: Bella was adopted as a puppy from CPR in 2022 under our spay/neuter exemption policy, which required adopters to sign a contract agreeing to have her altered at the veterinarian-recommended age; that agreement was not fulfilled. In April 2026, she was surrendered to a local shelter, which then contacted CPR to take her back. It was reported that Bella had a litter of puppies in July 2025 and was not spayed until after she developed medical complications related to remaining unaltered-an entirely preventable outcome given the safeguards and contractual obligations in place at the time of her adoption.
From the foster: Bella is an absolute darling! Sweet and affectionate She loves humans!
Poor sweet Bella was surrender to another shelter and her anxiety went through the roof for being abandoned and left in a strange and scary environment. Poor sweetheart took a day to calm down and know she was safe in our home, pacing and panting, and trying but unable to settle herself. While her foster brother and sister wanted to play with her and she tried, she was too anxious and came back for human comfort.
Bella is kennel trained and walks well on a leash. She does her business on leash and is learning how to use a doggie door. She shows no resource guarding. She gets along easily with her foster brother and sister, but other than a few jumps up/pounces, she doesn't seem to know how to play. So, we're learning. Bella spends the night sleeping with humans at the foot of the bed. First night, with her fear and anxiety she was plastered to me, but as the nights have past, she sleeps without having to touch all night.
We've been working on calming at bedtime. Bella is wonderful throughout the day, be it in a kennel or laying at your feet all day while you work from home. It seems that she has spent a long time being calm during the day and ready for play in the evenings. She would probably to do with a runner or someone who likes long walks to wear her out in the evenings (she really is wonderful on leash, especially when it's just her and her human.)
Bella loves to chew on dog things, you name it, she loves it! Himalayan Milk Chews, Kneecaps, Water buffalo horn, Cow Hooves, Bully Sticks, Ox tail and for kennel time, frozen peanut butter Kong. She has yet to steal a shoe or chew on anything she shouldn't. She also loves stuffies!
Come bring this loving girl home and show her some humans won't quit on her.
