Husky Dogs Available for Adoption in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

TILE

Husky
🇺🇸
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
April 26th
female, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

** $25 in pledges for the rescue that pulls! **

Tile ACCT-A-246436 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Tile must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, APRIL 30TH at 10AM. Should Tile's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Tile arrived at ACCT Philly on the evening of March 30th as a stray, reportedly having been hit by a car. Because she was breathing heavily, she was sent to an emergency hospital where she was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia which has since improved.

Despite a rough start, this sweet Husky has blossomed during her time at the shelter. Tile is calm, confident, and surprisingly easy to handle. She walks politely on leash without pulling, knows her sit and paw commands, and is treat motivated. She warms up steadily and once comfortable, actively seeks out affection, leaning in for pets and even rolling over for belly rubs. She's been described as mellow, trusting, and sweet by nearly everyone who has spent time with her. She has done well meeting other dogs while at the shelter. Tile has a vision impairment, which she navigates with impressive confidence - she rarely bumps into anything and moves through the shelter and play yards with ease.

Tile was briefly adopted but returned after 5 days due to destructive behavior, which included breaking out of a crate and closed rooms and damaging the crate, walls, a door, and blinds. She will need someone to work with her through the decompression period to help her become comfortable in her new home. We are recommending a home where any children are over the age of 10. Due to her length of stay, Tile is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per adoption return notes 4/25: High and low when she is happy she is bubbly doesn't like to be told. Mostly housetrained. Not crate trained. Low and high energy. Aggressive when placed in a crate or even in a closed room (when asked she just said she brings everything in the cage and moves it to the one side and she even broke out the crate, nothing aggressive). Knows sit and paw. Pulls on leash. Likes bacon treats. Curious and fixated on strangers, children, and dogs. Has not been around cats. Needs attention 24/7.

Per adopter 4/25: She has destructive tendencies that lead to damaging property. She is playful yet sassy. Will listen but with resistance. Very aggressive and destructive. Barks excessively when not given attention. Hard to comment on her best qualities when she has been very destructive. Within 6 days she has destroyed walls, framing, a door and blinds and this is some of the destruction done by her. She does not do well in closed doors or in a crate. Both have been damaged due to her behavior.

Tile was adopted on 4/20 and was returned on 4/25.

Per volunteer 4/17: Low energy. Dog meet, not reactive at all. Tile is a very confident dog and smart. Would do great in any home. Walks nice on leash and is very sweet and smart.

Per staff 4/16: Low energy.

Per volunteer 4/15: I took out Tile tonight because she hadn't been out with a volunteer in a couple of days. When I went to loop her, she dodged her head, but being visually impaired the leash may have looked odd to her. Once looped, she stepped down from the kennel and was very easy to walk through the shelter aisles and to the cold yard. She has an easy but confident walk. She didn't run into anything, and maneuvers around most objects. In the yard, she walked the perimeter taking in smells and a couple of times she approached me for pets. One time, she did a full turn so I could give her butt scratches. She has a very nice thick coat. She really surprised me with her sit and paw move, and even gave me a demand bark like I was not fast enough with the treats. She definitely enjoyed them and took them nicely. I had no issue returning her, she stepped right into her kennel and was easy to unleash. She is adorable and she was a nice way to end the night.

Per volunteer 4/13: Low energy. Very mellow today. Easy to leash and walks by your side. Didn't seem interested in playing or pets today.

Per volunteer 4/12: Low energy. Very sweet and trusting dog, seems to see a little bit. Allows petting, no aggressive behavior, walks good on lead.

Per volunteer 4/12: Low energy. Very mellow.

Per staff 4/11: Low energy.

Per volunteer 4/9: Low energy. Sweet, easy. So nice!
Per staff 4/7: Due to behavioral improvement this dog is being leveled down from blue to gold. Due to visual impairment along with some behaviors initially displayed at the emergency vet, kids 10+ out of any abundance of caution.

Per volunteer 4/6: Low energy. Curious of dog through fence. Very easy to leash and walk. Sniffed around and solicited pets. Very sweet and calm.

Per volunteer 4/4: Low energy. Very laid back. In and out with no issues. Leans in to be pet. Sweet, calm girl.

Per staff 4/3: Tile was easy to leash and walked well. She did almost bump into some things so does appear to be partially visually impaired. She sniffed around a lot and was curious about the other dogs. She allowed all handling. Walked right back into her kennel.
Per staff 4/3: Very food motivated.

Per volunteer 4/2:
Kennel Presentation: She was sitting at the other end of the kennel when I approached, and she sat there for a few seconds and then slowly came forward. I dropped a treat for her and she sniffed it, but didn't eat it. Then I handed her a treat through the door and she took it gently and spit it on the ground gently.
Leash Skills: I got her leashed very easily although she did try to dodge it at first - she walks slowly on leash. No pulling and very polite leash manners, although she was recently hit by a car. A few times she just laid down and started sniffing the ground when we were walking.
Sociability: Brought her into the volunteer office and she warmed up to me a bit and solicited out some pets. Loose body language when she took pets. She ended up taking treats from me inside and every time I held a treat out she would give me paw! She seems to know sit and paw and is pretty treat motivated. After a few minutes in the volunteer office, she got more curious and was sticking her head into bins and getting up on the couch. Typical husky behavior here.
Play: No interest in toys today.
Dog Interaction: None today.
Return to Kennel: Easily went back into her kennel for unleashing.
Color Level: Overall, very easy for handling - giving her blue just due to the behavior notes from the offsite hospital. If her behavior continues this way, she can be gold.
Recommendations and Considerations: Can go down from blue if her behavior continues positively.

Per staff: When Tile initially arrived at PASE, she was noted to be reactive, and trying to bite when being examined. However when speaking with both doctors including the one who saw her on intake, they said she had drastically improved. I asked in what way, they said she was taking treats from staff, a staff member had been able to easily examine her that day, and as the doctor was speaking with me he said that Tile was putting her paws on him for a treat. The other doctor texted me after she left noting that Tile was bumping into things and seemed to have vision impairment, which could also have explained her initial behavior. When she returned to ACCT I went to her kennel, she was asleep, I opened the door to let her sniff my hand, which she did. She was uninterested in treats but solicited pets with her head without getting up. I stopped petting her, and she rolled over for a belly rub.

Per staff 4/2: Spoke with PASE. Tile's behavior drastically improved. They think she may have vision impairment as she bumped into things on her way out. She knows commands and took treats gently from staff. They noted that she barked a lot when left alone so placed her into her own room area where she did better.
