Bok Choy is going to need patience, understanding, and time before he fully blossoms into the dog he was always meant to be. Beneath his fear and uncertainty is a sweet Golden Retriever personality that is already beginning to shine through, but he still has a long journey ahead.
Bok Choy was one of approximately 30 Goldens and Golden mixes brought to safety following a seizure. The dogs had been living in a trailer with access to only a small yard, surrounded by filth and deprived of the human interaction, affection, and experiences that every dog deserves.
Despite his difficult start, Bok Choy wants to connect with people. He has already discovered that walks can be enjoyable adventures. The challenge comes before the walk begins. Having never worn a collar, leash, or harness, getting ready can be a slow process that requires patience and a gentle approach. Sit quietly with him, speak softly, and give him the time he needs, and you'll be rewarded with a loyal friend. The catch? You may have to repeat that process the next time you see him. Trust is still new to Bok Choy, and he is learning that people can be kind and predictable. Every positive interaction helps build his confidence.
We know there is a typical loving Golden hiding behind that timid exterior. He simply needs the chance to feel safe enough to let that dog emerge.
Because Bok Choy may be a flight risk while he adjusts, we are looking for a home without young children who could accidentally leave a door or gate open. A securely fenced yard would be ideal to help keep him safe. As he settles into his new life, positive reinforcement training could do wonders for his confidence, and a calm, well-adjusted canine companion may also help show him the ropes.
Bok Choy has already survived more than any dog should have to endure. Now he needs a family willing to move at his pace, celebrate the small victories, and show him that his future can be very different from his past.
If you can offer patience, compassion, and a safe place to land, Bok Choy may just reward you by becoming the devoted Golden companion he was always meant to be. Fill out an application and help this deserving boy discover what it truly means to be loved.
