Apply to Adopt Me!
Say hi to pretty Miss Mia. This approx. 2yo, 25lb. possible flat coated retriever mix with a shiny medium-length wavy black coat, is truly the entire package. This super sweet girl is good with everyone and everything - kids, adults, dogs, cats, even chickens! She has a calmness about her and the perfect temperament and high intelligence for a therapy dog to visit hospitals and nursing homes, and preference will be given to a home that wants to put her intelligence to work in that field. She can also get excited and the zoomies will come out! She is house trained, enjoys daily walks on leash (she does like to stop and sniff often though so don't expect a brisk walk lol), she stands calmly as her harness is put on and off, and is non-reactive to other dogs and people on a walk, takes treats gently, knows “sit” and is the perfect car rider. She loves snuggling with you on the couch or in bed, and sleeps quietly all night long. She patiently waits at home when her people are gone. She doesn’t mind baths and everyone at the vet loves her. She is not a big barker, except at meal time when she tells you to speed it up and does twirls in anticipation! She does like to be where you are in the kitchen, making her a trip hazard, so good balance is imperative, but she is currently learning the "place" command. She is not a picky eater and loves meal time. Some of her favorite treats are raw and cooked zucchini, yellow squash and cauliflower, cooked sweet potatoes, apples and bananas. She is a lucky girl, as she came to our rescue from a shelter where she was taken after witnessed being hit by a car. Following surgery and recovery to repair an inguinal hernia and a dislocated hip, she has undergone weeks of rehab therapy to strengthen the ligaments and muscles supporting the hip. She quickly learned and mastered her therapy exercises and is now ready for adoption. We are requiring an ample-sized fenced yard for her. Our rehab vet has recommended she be placed in a home with a medium to low-energy dog companion that is her size or smaller. Mia would love to rough-house with a higher energy dog, but our vet just wants to be cautious to prevent re-injury to her hip, so engaging in light to medium levels of play would be best for her. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you match all the qualification for Mia, please complete an app and tell us more about your family.
