Emmy is a sweet, cuddly 1-2 year old Doberman that weighs 57 lbs. She is fully grown and will not get any larger. Emmy is the perfect mix of playful energy and gentle companionship. Inside the home, Emmy is incredibly sweet and easygoing. She has a calm, almost regal presence and is happiest curled up nearby while her humans relax. Whether you’re watching TV, reading in bed, or working around the house, Emmy simply wants to be close to the people she loves. When she goes out in the backyard, she really shows off her silly and playful side. She usually has one of her favorite stuffed animals in her mouth and carries it from room to room. When you let her outside, she will do run laps and do zoomies around the yard before greeting her human back at the back door for pets. Her favorite activity is watching the squirrels run through the trees. She could spend hours just lounging around in the grass sunbathing as she watches all the birds and squirrels go by. She also loves to spend time snuggled up on the couch or bed while her humans watch movies, and thinks she's a tiny lap dog when she crawls into your lap to stretch out for a nap. In typical Doberman fashion, Emmy forms very strong bonds with her people and shows her affection in quiet, loyal ways. She can be a little reserved when meeting new people and tends to warm up more quickly to women than men, but once she trusts someone, her loving personality comes through completely. She warmed up quickly to her foster dad, though her foster mom has clearly become her favorite person. Emmy especially adores children and has a naturally gentle demeanor with them. In her foster home, she happily follows the kids around, patiently waiting for them to sit down so she can snuggle beside them and soak up attention. She’s the kind of dog who quickly becomes deeply attached to her family and thrives most in a calm, loving home where she can feel safe, comfortable, and included in everyday life. Emmy would do best in a home that understands she’s more of a homebody than a social butterfly. Busy public outings in crowded places are not her cup of tea, and she’s much happier spending quality time at home with her family over going on public outings. She’s the ideal companion for someone looking for a loyal shadow, a couch cuddle buddy, and a sweet, sensitive dog who will blossom even more with patience, love, and consistency. She’s a deeply affectionate girl with so much love to give, and once she bonds with her family, she’s the kind of dog who stays faithfully by their side through everything.

Emmy is medium energy, so she is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that requires play time in the backyard a few times a day. Her favorite activities include playing some fun mental stimulation games that involve yummy treats, doing zoomies in the backyard with her toys, and chasing squirrels as they run through the trees. Emmy also really enjoys activities that engage her mind. Treat puzzles, enrichment games, and other mentally stimulating activities are some of her favorite ways to spend time, especially when yummy snacks are involved. She’s a smart girl who enjoys figuring things out and is very motivated by treats and praise. She’s also wonderful at entertaining herself and doesn’t constantly demand attention from her people. When her foster family is busy, Emmy is perfectly content gathering up her toys, chewing on a favorite bone, or quietly relaxing nearby until it’s time for more cuddles or playtime. She's very calm and low energy indoors, but once she goes outside, she runs laps around the yard and playfully tosses her toys around to chase after. When playtime wraps up, her sweet and snuggly side takes center stage and she will curl up next to her fosters on the couch for a nap. She is also very curious and loves to snoot around checking out every single inch of the yard when she goes outside. Although many dogs love long daily walks, Emmy is much more of a backyard girl. Busy walks and public outings aren’t really her thing, and she would much rather have a secure fenced yard where she can safely play, explore, and enjoy the outdoors at her own pace. For Emmy, that combination of a loving home, soft place to nap, fun enrichment activities, and a yard for zoomies and squirrel watching is truly all she needs to be a happy, content pup.

Emmy absolutely adores children and would love to have kids in her forever home that she can cuddle and play with. She loves the two kids in her foster home that are 12 and 8 years old. She calmly follows them around the home and patiently waits for them to sit down so she can curl up next to them. She is very gentle with them and loves to observe everything they're doing. She has such a sweet, observant nature with children and genuinely seems to enjoy simply being part of their world. Emmy has the loyal and protective instincts typical of a Doberman. Because of this, she can become nervous or bark at unfamiliar dogs while out on walks or when dogs pass by the house. She will bark through the window or become alert when she sees other dogs nearby. Emmy is a sensitive girl who needs guidance, structure, and an owner who understands her breed traits and body language. For that reason, Emmy would likely do best as the only dog in the home where she can fully relax and enjoy all the love and attention from her family. However, in a home with experienced Doberman owners who are knowledgeable about proper introductions, management, and canine behavior, she may potentially be able to coexist with another calm, compatible dog after very slow and careful introductions. Any introductions would need to happen gradually and thoughtfully to help Emmy feel safe and secure. She has not been introduced to cats, but because she loves chasing squirrels and small creatures outside in the backyard, to be on the safe side, there should be no kitties in her forever home.

Emmy is kennel trained, potty trained, and is still working on mastering leash training. She does sleep in a kennel every night and will happily go inside to lay down as long as she gets a yummy treat to snack on before she falls asleep. She will sleep throughout the night without making a peep, and will not have an accident in her kennel. She would really love to sleep in bed with her humans and get as many cuddles as she can while you sleep. Every night before bed, she will crawl in bed with her foster family and cuddle before she goes into her kennel to sleep. She has not been destructive at all when left out when her fosters have left her home alone for short periods. She is fully potty trained and is great about communicating that she needs to go outside. She will alert her fosters that she needs to potty by tapping her feet at the back door and making little "yip" sounds to get their attention. When it comes to leash training, she will need a confident handler that can help her continue to build her confidence on walks. She does best with experienced dog owners that will use positive reinforcement training with her. She is food motivated and enjoys learning new training skills. She picked up on "sit" and "down" really quickly and would benefit from someone working with her to learn additional training skills.

Emmy's ideal home environment is with a family that appreciates the devoted nature of Dobermans, understands her protective instincts, and can provide her with a calm, structured environment where she feels secure. She requires a house with a fenced in backyard that she can run around and play in. No apartments, condos, or townhomes because she needs a safe, secure fenced in area to exercise in with no other dogs. She would love if her family works from home or has a hybrid work schedule, but she's also perfectly fine if her humans work outside of the home. She has gone to the office with her foster mom and would do fine in a quiet, low traffic office. No public dog parks for this sweet girl (who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways), but she would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots occasionally.

Emmy is in a foster home in Central Texas. She can be adopted and transported to the following cities/states: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/transport-locations

TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. We cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.

Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so when you submit an application it can take a few days to be reviewed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on Petfinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and policy on meet and greets.

The cost to adopt is $550 - $575, which includes $300 adoption fee and a $250-$275 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay procedure, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus any necessary vet care while in the rescue's care. The transport fee is $275 for PNW transport and $250 for all other states, and covers the transportation from Emmy's foster home to her forever home.
