Dachshund Dogs Available for Adoption in Columbus, Ohio

Dachshund

DESCRIPTION

Gladys is a 4-year-old, Miniature Dachshund, former puppy mill mama who came into rescue and immediately decided to trust her foster family.

Starting life as a puppy mill dog used only to produce puppies who will be sold for profit is not an easy life for a dog. When one of these dogs is lucky enough to be released to a rescue they often bring with them a host of medical issues and sadly, often emotional scars from their early life of neglect and lack of human kindness. Miraculously, sometimes a dog has such a heart for love that they put it all behind them and enter a new chapter of their life with an open heart and a willingness to trust in the promise of a new beginning.

Gladys is one of those miraculous dogs! She is excited to see her foster family every time they enter the room. She follows them around sitting at their feet looking up with such love and devotion you cannot help but fall in love with her right back. Other than dental issues which are being addressed, Gladys received a clean bill of health at her intake physical.

Gladys currently lives in a foster home with 4 other small dogs both male and female and with cats and she is doing well with all of them. She quickly caught on to the routines of the house and is quiet in her crate when needed during the day and at night. She was initially terrified of being outside and in the grass, but is quickly learning that outside to potty means treats and she is VERY food motivated. She now loves to zoom around in the yard and explore.

Because she can startle easily with fast movements and isn't a big fan of hugs (belly rubs and snuggles though are a big yes!) children age 8 and up are best suited as fulltime roommates. She has met her foster family's 2 year old grandson and showed positive interest so visiting littles with close supervision should be fine. She will be a loving and devoted companion and will bring such joy and laughter to any family lucky enough to claim this tiny girl's big heart.

Adoption fee is $375 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only.

STS is a foster-based and volunteer-run rescue. We do not have a physical location or set hours for you to meet dogs, and it does take time to answer each inquiry. All dogs are in foster homes and once an application is approved and a home visit is completed you will be able to schedule meet and greets with available dogs. We encourage interested individuals to get approved prior to searching as it helps expedite the process. A Petfinder inquiry is not a substitute for an application. For detailed information about our adoption process, including fees, please visit our website at http://www.stopthesuffering.org.
