Are you looking for a shadow who is part "velcro-companion" and part "nosey neighbor"? Meet Schnitzel, a young long-haired Dachshund who is ready to oversee your household and steal your heart.
The Great Investigator: Schnitzel is a social butterfly with a very important job: Household Supervisor. Whether you’re folding laundry or the cat is headed to the kitchen, Schnitzel is right there to ensure everything is up to code. He’s a friendly busybody who loves being part of the pack!
The Belly Rub Specialist: When he’s finally finished with his rounds, he retires to his favorite spot: your lap. Schnitzel is an elite-level cuddler who will flip onto his back the second you look his way, demanding the belly rubs he’s rightfully earned after a long day of supervising the homefront. He lives for human affection and will be your most loyal (and softest) companion.
The Social Life (Pet-Savvy Edition): Schnitzel is currently in a foster home with both dogs and cats and is learning his social manners well.
For the Feline-Friendly: He shares space with cats beautifully and is respectful of their corrections when he forgets his manners. However, he thinks a running cat is an invitation for a high-speed game of tag, so he’d do best with dog-savvy kitties who don’t mind a curious shadow.
For the Canine-Savvy: He is a master at reading the room. He knows who he needs to listen to and who he can take advantage of. He respectfully gives space to the anti-social Pomeranian in his foster home, but he can be a bit of a "pesky little brother" to the younger Lab. While they co-exist and occasionally play, Schnitzel sometimes needs a little human help knowing when to give his foster brother some space.
No Boundaries, Just Love: Schnitzel believes that if a surface is soft, it’s meant for him. He has zero boundaries when it comes to furniture. He’ll hop right onto the bed for morning snuggles or claim a spot on the back of the sofa like a cat! He’s looking for a "furniture-friendly" home where he’s allowed to be your literal right-hand man, while also understanding that Doxie backs need a little extra support when jumping on or off of things. Doggy stairs are highly recommended.
Tidbits of Life at Home: Aside from marking a couple of spots on the first day in his foster home, Schnitzel appears to be house-trained. While he isn't a fan of the crate, he is content being baby-gated in a room with a window so he can keep an eye on the neighborhood. For the most part, he’s a dream on the leash and the perfect walking companion. If you're asking him to keep walking past another dog, he is happy to ignore them and just keeps trekking along. If you're asking him to meet another dog, he can get a bit "barky," but once he gets a sniff in, he calms down and is happy to continue the walk side by side. Schnitzel has a medium energy level. He does well with a walk a day and then is happy to lounge around the house in whatever room you're in.
Schnitzel's Ideal Home: He is looking for a family who wants him to be a true part of their daily life. He would be the perfect "Executive Assistant" for a work-from-home professional. He’s happiest when he can nap in your office and keep you company. He truly craves being around his people and because of that, he’s looking for a home where his humans are around more often than not. Other pets are ok, as long as the humans in the home are comfortable managing those interactions while everyone is getting to know each other. He'd also be content as an only pet, soaking up all the attention from his people.
How to Apply: If you'd like to be considered for Schnitzel, please reach out to his foster mom at FosterPets716@Gmail.com and complete an application here: https://friendsofcbas.org/adopt. Please note: To ensure a successful forever placement, adoptions are based on finding the best match for Schnitzel's specific needs, rather than a first-come, first-served basis. All applications will be thoroughly reviewed.
