Basil, our 2 year old 15 pound chiweenie, is a snuggling aficionado. He's a fan of couch snuggles, floor snuggles, and even upside down snuggles. Now that Basil doesn't have to lug a splint around anymore, snuggling has become a lot easier. Which also means it's time to find him a permanent snuggle situation.
Found stray and injured, we suspect Basil tried to play in traffic. He had multiple injuries to his pelvis, his left foot, and his penis (especially ouchie). Adding insult to injury, Basil also contracted pneumonia at the shelter. We've had him for several weeks, which was plenty of time to heal and plenty of time for us to fall in love.
Basil is remarkably friendly and has been great with older kids. He has been good with the dogs in his foster home, but it does take a bit for him to warm up to them. We suspect Basil may prefer to be an only dog or live with another dog who ignores him. Basil is good at self entertaining and loves a chew session. At home, Basil is potty and crate trained.
If you've ever wanted to immediately know if anyone was walking by your house, Basil is your guy. He's elected himself part of the neighborhood watch and enjoys keeping an eye out the window. For this reason, apartment living may not be ideal for Basil. Basil is food motivated and smart and is learning not to bark. Until he masters this, a quiet neighborhood may be best.
Basil is heartworm negative and current on his preventatives. His adoption fee is 300.
Nothing beats a good chiweenie cuddle session. Have you been missing out? Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org.
