TACO

Chihuahua
April 27th
male, small, young

DESCRIPTION

🐢 Basics
● Dog’s Name (include nicknames – we know you have them!): Taco, Tacquito, Mr Taco, The little one
● Age / Size: 3 years and about 5lbs
● Rescued in Texas

πŸ’™ Foster Note

He is such a little charmer. He is the tiniest dog I have ever seen but has so much personality. I am frankly obsessed with him. He is a great mix of playfulness but also loves to be a little cuddle bug. He is really funny. He almost has no idea how small he is and acts like such a tough guy and like he runs the neighborhood then you get home and he just wants to be a little love bug.

He is so good with his crate, I have never had a dog who responds so well and loves being in his little spot so that has made being able to pop out for a quick meal, run to the store, or gym so easy.

I think he is a great dog and would be such a good fit for a person or couple living in the city.

πŸ’› Personality Snapshot
● Describe in 3–5 words: Smallest dog with huge personality
● Energy level (Low / Moderate / High): moderate
● More people‑oriented or independent? Loves people
● How do they handle new situations? Little nervous at first but quick to adjust

πŸ• Social & Home Life
● How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)? He has been great with new people so friendly on walks and loves to say hi. Has been stopped by adults, kids, men, women and seems fine with everyone
● How are they with other dogs? So far has only been with other dogs on walks. Smaller dogs he seems to be okay with but does not like large dogs.
● Cats or other animals (if known)? Not known
● Behavior when left alone or when guests visit: May bark for a few min when left alone but is great in his crate and will settle down pretty quickly

πŸŽ“ Training & Manners
● Potty trained? He's getting great at letting us know when he has to go ( pretty much 20 min after he eats and right when he gets up in the morning)
● Crate trained? Yes he is so good with his crate. He sleeps in it all night and when we leave it open he will go in it to just hang out during the day while we work. We leave him in the crate when we are out of the apartment and he will be perfectly content taking a nap in there for an hour or two while we are gone. We haven't tested for longer than about two hours.
● Leash skills: Pretty good! He likes to go for walks (we will do about a 10 block loop so 20 ish all together). He does not do great in the rain so those walks tend to be a bit shorter. He loves to stop and say hi to people. He is working on staying calm when we pass bigger dogs and can get a little nervous if we are walking on a busy avenue. Overall super impressed on how he does on walks given how tiny he is.
● Commands known (if any): Not yet but we are working on it! He is starting to get β€œPlace” and will go to his bed when we tell him.

🌞 Daily Life
● Typical day with you: Taco has been adjusting well to daily apartment life in NYC. We usually get up with him around 7am. As soon as we get up he lets us know he is ready to do out for a bathroom break. We will do a shorter walk with him then, head back upstairs where he will relax for a bit while we start work. He has been eating his first meal around 10am and then we will go for another walk after that ( this one a bit longer). He likes to play with his toys when he first gets back in and then will happily settle back down on the couch. He loves a fuzzy blanket and to lay by the windows in the sun.

We usually finish up work and will take him for another walk around around 5pm and then he will relax in the crate while we head out to the gym.

We take him for a quick walk when we get home around 7 and then will give him dinner. Then I will take him out again before bed around 9pm. He loves to snuggle on the couch so he will usually come up and hangout with us till we go to bed around 10:30/11 when he goes into his crate for the night.

● Exercise needs: He is small so the walks dont need to be anything insane but he does like to have play and exercise brakes pretty frequently throughout the day. Short walks are just a couple of blocks and we might do 2 of those and then 2 longer walks. He loves to play fetch in the apartment so will toss the toy around with him to give him some exercise.

● Favorite activities or toys: He loves things that rustle, he has a squirrel he really likes and then a few squeaky toys. Not to much interest shown in the balls and bones he has

🏑 Ideal Home
● Only dog / With dog / Either: Only dog
● Good fit for apartment living? Yes
● Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): moderate
● What kind of adopter would be the best match? I think a couple would be great. He loves people and I think having someone around most of the time is good for him. He is good with kids, but he is so tiny I would be a little nervous with a small kid being to rough with him so maybe older children only
