Paco did not arrive at the shelter ready to make friends.

After losing the only home he had ever known, Paco completely shut down during his first days with us. He hid behind his mother Cali constantly, lip licked nonstop, growled when frightened, and snapped when he felt cornered or overwhelmed by the noise and unfamiliar environment around him.

And honestly? We understood.

So instead of forcing interaction, we slowed everything down. We sat quietly on the floor, moved slowly, and let Paco decide for himself when he was ready. Most importantly, we let him watch Cali trust us first.

Little by little, Paco started creeping forward. First watching from a distance, then sniffing cautiously, then taking treats, and eventually asking for affection himself.

Now that same scared boy melts for belly rubs, plays hard in the yard, and quietly leans into the people he trusts once he feels safe enough to let his guard down. Paco is still a sensitive dog who needs patience during transitions, but underneath all the fear is an incredibly sweet and gentle personality.

Paco previously lived with small children and appears housebroken, which shows in how tidy he keeps his kennel. Leash walking still seems somewhat unfamiliar or uncomfortable in the shelter environment, so he currently enjoys quieter yard time while continuing to build confidence.

Paco tested positive for Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis and is currently receiving treatment.

While not required, we would truly love to see Paco remain with his mother Cali if at all possible. She is very clearly his comfort and confidence in unfamiliar situations.

We are still learning more about how Paco feels about other dogs. Interest has been shown, but proper introductions would be important. His history with cats is unknown.

Paco is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines, dewormed, monthly preventatives, and 4DX tested.
