Carter is a 5-year-old, 7-pound Chihuahua with a gentle heart and a quiet spirit who is just beginning to discover how wonderful life can be.
When Carter first arrived, it was clear he hadn't received the care he deserved. Neglect left him with significant hair loss, but with good nutrition, proper care, and lots of love, his coat is steadily growing back. Underneath it all is a stunning brindle boy whose medium-to-long coat is already starting to emerge. We have a feeling he's going to be absolutely gorgeous when fully grown in.
Carter can be shy when meeting new people and situations. He isn't the type of dog who will leap into your arms on day one. Instead, he watches quietly, takes his time, and slowly learns that he is safe. But once that trust is earned, Carter loves deeply and forms incredibly strong bonds with his people.
He enjoys the company of other small dogs and would likely benefit from having a confident canine friend around to help show him the ropes. He is a quiet little guy with lovely house manners, does well in a crate, rides nicely in the car, and uses potty pads successfully. His leash skills are still unknown as he continues to build confidence.
Because he can be sensitive and needs a calm environment where he can continue to blossom, Carter is looking for an adult-only home with no children.
Dogs like Carter are some of the most rewarding companions you'll ever meet. They don't give their hearts away immediately-but when they do, they give them completely.
All Carter needs is a little patience, a little understanding, and someone willing to let him move at his own pace. In return, you'll gain the unwavering love of a sweet, gentle soul who has been waiting his whole life for a place to belong.
