This little Chihuahua is equal parts affectionate cuddle bug, playful wrestler, and tiny deer impersonator. When Ruben gets excited, he doesn’t just run—he bounces. His foster family says he springs around the house like a baby deer, especially when he’s gearing up for a wrestling match with his much larger foster sister (who he absolutely adores).

💛 Ruben may start off shy in new situations, but don’t let that fool you—once he feels safe, his confident, silly, and loving personality shines bright. He’s the kind of dog who likes to take introductions at his own pace, but after just a little patience, you’ll discover a loyal companion who loves belly rubs, neck scratches, cuddles, and being part of the action.

🐾 Ruben’s ideal home is one with another playful, friendly dog. More than anything, Ruben truly thrives with canine companionship and we strongly believe he will be happiest in a home where he has a dog sibling to wrestle, chase, and play with. His confidence blossoms around other dogs, and having a built-in best friend helps him burn energy, learn routines, and feel secure. While he absolutely loves his humans, Ruben’s playful spirit shines brightest when he has a fellow pup by his side.

🌎 Daily walks are an important part of Ruben’s routine, and he’s made wonderful progress since arriving in foster care. He started off shy and unsure, but now enjoys his adventures far more. Loud noises and sudden surprises can still spook him, so he’ll benefit from continued positive reinforcement as he builds confidence. With patience, consistency, and a playful canine role model, Ruben is only going to keep blossoming.

🏡 Ruben could fit beautifully into many types of loving homes, including families, couples, or individuals—as long as they’re ready to continue his house training and provide him with structure. He’s done wonderfully with kids, has been great with cats, and loves other dogs. His future family should appreciate that while he’s tiny, he’s also active, social, and full of hilarious personality.

⭐ Ruben already has so much going for him. He is a crate-trained superstar who sleeps quietly through the night, travels well in the car, and is wonderfully affectionate once he feels comfortable. He’s playful, funny, food-motivated, and eager to engage. Whether he’s stealing shoes to carry them outside (without chewing them!), bouncing through the yard, or instigating a game with another dog, Ruben brings laughter and joy everywhere he goes.

📚 Like any young rescue dog, Ruben is still learning. He’s continuing to improve with house training, basic commands, leash confidence, and food manners around other pets. His resource guarding has already shown improvement with structure and guidance, and he will do best with a family committed to gentle leadership and positive reinforcement.
