DESCRIPTION

Meeps Meeps
Female Chihuahua | 2 Years Old | 9 Pounds
If ever there was a dog who refused to give up, it's Meeps Meeps.

When Meeps first arrived in rescue, she had been found alone outside and unable to use her back legs. No one knows what happened to her or how long she had been on her own, but despite everything she had endured, Meeps remained sweet, loving, and determined.

A CT scan and orthopedic specialist gave us a guarded prognosis and told us she would likely never walk again.

And then Meeps started proving everyone wrong.

First she stood. Then she took a few steps. Today, Meeps walks on her own. She still occasionally slips on slick floors and isn't quite as coordinated as other dogs, but she uses both back legs and continues to get stronger every day. Watching her rediscover what her little body can do has been nothing short of amazing.

Meeps loves being with her people. She earned her name because of the adorable little "meep meep" sounds she makes when she wants attention or wants to make sure you haven't forgotten she's there. At just 9 pounds, she's the perfect size for tagging along on adventures, curling up beside you while you work, or supervising absolutely everything you do around the house.

She's affectionate without being demanding, gives the gentlest little kisses, and firmly believes that bedtime should be spent in the big bed with her humans.

Meeps is also a world-class burrower. Blankets are her happy place, but she'll happily disappear into a dog bed with a slipcover, a pile of laundry, or any cozy spot she can crawl into. More than once, her foster family has wondered where Meeps went, only to notice a suspicious lump in the middle of a dog bed under the slipcover.

She's also one of the funniest dogs you'll ever meet. Meeps has a complicated relationship with cats. From across the room, she'll bark and grumble as if she's preparing for battle. Up close, however, she usually settles for gently tapping them with her nose, attempting a tiny nibble, and then immediately respecting their boundaries once they hiss and remind her that she's not actually in charge.

Speaking of being in charge, Meeps is absolutely convinced she is much larger than nine pounds. She gets along well with other dogs, but we think she would do best with other small dogs or respectful canine companions. Meeps isn't afraid to tell a much bigger dog exactly how she feels, and she occasionally forgets that being brave and being tiny can be a risky combination.

Meeps has made incredible progress with her recovery, but she may not have complete control over her bowels just yet. She does very well with frequent potty breaks, but she occasionally has what her foster mom calls "oopsie poopsies"—usually tiny little tootsie-roll surprises that appear without much warning. Her ideal adopter will have a good sense of humor, a washing machine, and an appreciation for a dog who is still improving every day.

What makes Meeps so special isn't just how far she's come—it's her attitude about it. She doesn't spend her days feeling sorry for herself. She wakes up excited to be part of the family, excited to investigate the house, excited to burrow into a blanket, excited to boss around dogs twice her size, and excited to spend time with the people she loves.

Meeps is looking for someone who sees her the way we do: not as a dog defined by what happened to her, but as a joyful, resilient little companion who has overcome incredible odds and still greets every day with enthusiasm.

After everything she's been through, we think it's finally time for Meeps to find the happy ending she deserves.
