Max is a 1-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog searching for his forever home. Like a true Berner, he is loving, curious, sweet, and happiest when he’s close to his people — leaning on you or following at your feet.
Max came into rescue in February from a breeder with no name and no training, and he has already made incredible progress. He now knows his name, understands basic commands including sit, stay, down, come, and no, and is both crate trained and fully house trained. He has no resource guarding issues and is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and has successfully undergone surgery for elbow dysplasia.
Max gets along well with other dogs and has lived peacefully with two cats. He can be shy when meeting new people but warms up quickly once he feels comfortable. While he hasn’t spent much time around young children and tends to be timid around them, he would likely do best in a home with older kids.
At heart, Max is still very much a puppy. He can be mouthy at times and occasionally struggles with anxiety or nervousness, but he is working hard to build confidence and overcome the challenges in his early life. He is highly food motivated, eager to learn, and would thrive with a family committed to continued training, structure, and lots of love.
All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks!
