SENIOR BEAGLE LOOKING FOR A HOME!
Many of you may remember back in January we took in The Golden Girls, three senior girls who had been used for breeding hunting dogs. All of them had serious medical conditions due to overbreeding. Blanche, the youngest, was adopted pretty quickly. Sadly, after several months of the foster mom caring for her and building her strength up, Sophia died from complications from a necessary hernia surgery.
Rose is the last of the “Golden Girls”. She did have a large hernia that was corrected, the surgery went well and she healed nicely.
Rose is a sweet old (guessing 12 or 13) girl who loves people and wants to be with them, she follows her foster parents around. She is like most dogs who fought for food, when finishes her food she’ll wander over to the other dogs to help them finish but she is not aggressive.
She is a little shy, barely barks and gets along very well with other dogs. She is incontinent and requires diapers full time. Probably because she had so many puppies. She tends to stay dry overnight but leaks when she gets excited, especially at feeding time. We know this will be an issue for many adopters, but she will wear a diaper without trying to get it off.
Her legs are arthritic, so she moves slowly and needs medicine to ease the pain.
Due to her prior living conditions, even though she eats regularly now, she wants to eat mud and grass. The fosters keep an eye on her when outside.
She is not crated and sleeps in her dog bed near her fosters during the night. She might wake up occasionally at night and walk around a little. She usually stays quiet until 5:30am.
Like most older dogs she loves her food time, takes lots of naps, and follows her fosters for chin scratches, belly rubs and plenty of petting.
Fun Fact: She is smart and observant. Figured out that the pantry is full of goodies. If you leave the pantry doors open, she’ll wander over to grab a doggie treat bag, a potato, and even a red onion – seems she prefers red over yellow onions.
We really hope there is a family out there wanting to give this sweet senior a wonderful home where she can spend her retirement. It is amazing how much she loves people after what they have done to her. It seems so unfair that she lived the majority of her life outside, being used for breeding, receiving no medical care until they decided she was too old or sick and was discarded.
