Cyrus is a young beagle, probably around one to two years old, who is slowly learning what life as a loved family dog looks like. Before rescue, he was used as a breeding test lab dog and spent the first part of his life living in a wire crate with very little human interaction. Because of that, the world still feels pretty new and overwhelming to him at times.
Despite his past, Cyrus has been making steady progress and continues to surprise us in the best ways. He is still cautious with people and tends to keep his distance most of the time, which is completely understandable given what he has been through. But little by little, his curiosity is growing. Every now and then he will come over for pets or quietly choose to stay nearby, and those small moments feel huge for him.
What Cyrus does know how to do is be a puppy. He loves toys, gets excited to play with other dogs, and has a goofy, youthful side that really comes out once he feels comfortable. Having other dogs around helps him a lot, and he enjoys following their lead and learning from them.
Cyrus will need a patient, understanding family that is willing to meet him where he is and continue helping him build confidence at his own pace. He is not the kind of dog who will adjust overnight, but he is absolutely worth the time and care. Watching him slowly discover safety, comfort, and trust has been incredibly rewarding, and we believe he still has so much growth ahead of him.
He may not be ready to fully embrace people yet, but he is trying, and that effort is something really special to see.
We ask that his forever home have a dog sibling that will help him feel safe and to play with. He will also need a fenced-in yard to give him a safe space to play.
