Meet RipTide !!
READ THE FULL POST FIRST!! This sweet young boy was surrendered to a very crowded shelter due to him being too energetic. Who could have ever guessed a Cattle Dog would be energetic?..... Sigh....
RipTide is an approx 5 month old male he weighs 26 pounds. He is an Australian Cattle Dog or Blue Heeler mix (whichever name you prefer it's the same breed.) We are working on better pictures but hes like a grasshopper when the camera comes out.
He will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative and on preventions.
RipTide was a hot mess of pent up energy when he arrived. With structure and lots of exercise he is finally able to relax and learn his training. He is so sweet and loving with everyone he meets. He is quick to run up to you and flip over so you can rub his belly. He loves tug-o-war, Squeaky toys and playing with other dogs.
His breed is one that requires an active and knowledgeable dog savvy home. The breed herds things which looks like nipping and chasing. Its commonly mistaken as aggressive behavior. If you have younger kids its not likely a good breed for you. They often get mislabeled with bites toward kids for simply doing the herding things they are genetically created to do.
They also typically have a ridiculous amount of energy. They will be more energetic for their entire lives. They need constant exercise and activities to keep their minds busy.
RipTide appears to be a mix breed and currently doesn't have the full on crazy cattle dog energy. Despite that he is still in need of lots and lots of exercise and mental stimulation or he will become pent up and display negative behaviors. He may also become more active the more settled and comfortable he gets.
He is not fully potty trained yet but has not had too many potty accidents when taken out frequently. He is still learning how to behave on the leash. He did fine in the car. His first trip from the shelter he was very vocal but since then he has been quiet. He is crate trained and so far has not been vocal or gone potty in his crate.
He has not shown issues sharing food, treats and toys with other dogs or humans. He is however fed separately from other dogs so that has not been fully tested.
Riptide has so much potential in the right family. He is very very sweet and loving. He is also eager to learn and smart. With the proper structure, exercise and training he will be an amazing dog!
