Riggins is a 6-year-old, 40-pound Blue Heeler mix with a goofy personality and a heart full of love. I have had him since he was just 6 weeks old, and he has always been an energetic, playful boy who loves being outside and running around. Like a typical heeler, he can be very vocal and mouthy during playtime. Riggins is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines, so he is fully ready for his next chapter. He has lived around ducks and did wonderfully with them, and he absolutely adored the one child he has spent time with — immediately deciding that little boy was “his human.â€Â
As Riggins has gotten older, he has developed more anxiety, especially in busy environments with multiple high-energy dogs. He currently lives with several other dogs, including young puppies, and while he does enjoy playing, he can become overwhelmed in group settings. When overstimulated, he may bark, growl, or snap at the other dogs, though he has never injured another animal. Because of this, I truly believe Riggins would thrive in a calmer home with either no other dogs or perhaps one or two older, laid-back companions. He needs an experienced adopter who understands herding breeds and is willing to continue providing structure, patience, and guidance. He has worked with trainers and has even been on daily anxiety medication, but despite every effort, it has become clear that his current environment simply is not the best fit for him.
Riggins is house trained, crate trained, and does fairly well on a leash, although he can pull when excited. He is incredibly affectionate and deeply loyal to his people. His ideal home would have plenty of space to run and explore — preferably with land or a large yard — and a calmer atmosphere where he can feel secure and relaxed. Rehoming him has been an incredibly difficult decision made entirely out of love and the desire to give him the life he truly deserves. He really is a sweet, energetic boy who just needs a different environment to help him thrive.
Riggins is loyal, loving, goofy, and full of personality, and with the right home, he has so much happiness left to give. Apply to adopt Riggins today! We
