Canela’s story is one of resilience, strength, and second chances. This beautiful girl was found on the streets of Houston after being hit by a car. Thanks to a kind street feeder who refused to give up on her, Canela was rushed in for emergency care where doctors discovered she was suffering from a diaphragmatic hernia. After life-saving surgery and a long road to recovery, Canela proved just how strong and loving she truly is.

Now healed and thriving, Canela is ready to leave her past behind and start the next chapter of her life with a family of her own. 💕

Canela is a calm, affectionate girl who enjoys the simple joys in life… relaxing car rides, tasty cheeseburgers, cozy naps, and being close to her people. She walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained, and would do best as the only pet where she can soak up all the love and attention she deserves.

After everything she’s overcome, Canela is looking for more than just a home… she’s looking for someone who will cherish her forever.

*We coordinate with multiple transport services that operate weekly to Eastern states and bi-weekly or monthly to Western states from Texas to your state or a neighboring state. These are ground transports using third party vehicles (vans/buses) converted for dog transport. Each adopter has the ability to track the van using the app Life360, and receives updates from transport along the way. Facebook chats are another resource to stay informed on tracking dogs on transport. Please be able to use one of these available services if you wish to follow your adopted dog on transport.

*Our adoption fees are based on the vetting we put into each dog. Fees for puppies (under 12 months) are higher because they require more vetting than dogs over 1 year.

*Listed breed and age are based on a best guess estimation by rescue and veterinary staff; DNA tests are not included in adoption.

*Our adopters are eligible to receive 50% off training with Curbed Behaviors Dog Training for programs booked within 30 days of adoption, and 25% off programs booked within 60-90 days of adoption.

*All of our adopters are invited to join our “Alum Pupdates” Facebook group, to share their story and their adorable pup with fellow Sunnyside Street Dogs adopters!
