My name is Dewey! I am a curious male kitten with gray fur, long whiskers, a loud meow, and an even louder purr.
I have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (commonly known as CH), a lifelong neurological condition that affects my coordination and balance.
If I really try, I can take one to two steps at a time, but most of the time I get around by rolling or pulling myself from place to place. That's why I prefer softer, carpeted areas or rugs. I'm getting stronger every day and working hard to take full steps. My wobbles don't slow me down, though—I love to play and chase crinkle toys and my sister, Daisy, who also has CH. I can't jump or climb (yet), so for now I prefer all my toys to be low to the ground.
Although I am interested in other cats, I have a tough time playing and keeping up due to my wobbles, so for now I just play with my sister, Daisy. She is my best friend, and we love to play and snuggle with each other.
I eat both dry kitten food and wet food, but I especially love treats. I use wide, shallow dishes for my food and water, and I prefer them on a non-slip surface or silicone mat so they don't move around while I'm eating. Wet food can get a little messy, so I need help wiping my face and paws afterward.
I need a litter box with a wide, low entry and pellet litter. I try my best to make it to the litter box every time, but I do occasionally have accidents if I can't get there in time. My foster mom says adding potty pads around the litter box area is helpful.
My wobbles can sometimes make me bump into things or get stuck in places, so it's important that I have regular supervision and a clean, hazard-free environment to keep me safe (like cords, loose items that could be pulled down, deep water bowls, or anything that could be knocked over).Even though I'm wobbly, I'm just like other kittens! I'm very curious and always want to be part of the action. I love exploring, eating, playing with my sister, and snuggling in someone's lap so I can show off my loud purr. I consider myself quite fast—especially when there's a laser pointer involved!
It's important that I find someone who has the time and patience to learn about my condition and is willing to make the adaptations I need to live a happy, healthy life.
