The Ghost Cat Turned Work-In-Progress
When Hatchet arrived at the shelter in mid-February, he was absolutely convinced that humans were the enemy. He was the definition of a "ghost cat"-for a while, you wouldn't even know there was a cat in the house! Hatchet is a firm boundary setter. Initially, his rulebook was strict: hide, hiss, swat, and if you get too close, bite.

But fast forward to today, and Hatchet is slowly rewriting his rules. Every single day, he is getting a little more comfortable. He now walks around the house with a bit of confidence, lounges out in the open, and will even hold eye contact with you.

What He Loves:

Feline Friends: This is the quickest way to his heart! He loves other cats, and he absolutely adores kittens.
Treats: He is highly food motivated! He is currently at the stage where he can almosttake a treat directly from your hand without throwing a swat. He might even come onto the bed with you to get the treat!
Playtime: He loves toys and is now brave enough to play out in the open. He especially loves wand toys. When playtime is over he loves sitting in windows and napping in hammocks!
Dogs (Probably): While untested, given his preference for four-legged friends over two-legged ones, he will likely warm up to a dog long before he warms up to you!
His Boundaries (What He Dislikes):

Hands and feet.
People standing over him or walking directly toward him (especially if it's sudden or unexpected-this will still earn you a hiss and send him hiding).
Carriers and the vet.
Petting: Currently, Hatchet is a strictly "no touch" cat. He will enter your personal space, but strictly on his own timeline.
His Ideal Home:
Hatchet is not a beginner cat. He needs a fiercely patient, understanding home that doesn't take hissing or swatting personally. His adopter needs to meet him exactly where he is at and let him dictate the timeline. Because of his stranger danger, a traditional "meet and greet" is highly unrealistic-he won't show you his good side right away. Adopting Hatchet is a leap of faith.

If you have a quiet home, a resident cat (or kitten!) looking for a buddy, and a heart big enough to love a cat from a distance while he learns to trust, Hatchet is waiting for you.
