Avoine est arrivée au refuge en 2021 avec son frère Automne. En juin de cette année, ils ont été adoptés ensemble et ont vécu avec leur famille jusqu’en 2024. Le train de vie de leur famille a changé et cette dernière ne pouvant plus s’occuper d’eux, ils sont revenus au refuge. Ça été un choc.
Avoine est une chatte adulte au tempérament timide et sensible, qui a besoin de douceur, de patience et de respect pour s’épanouir pleinement. Réservée au premier abord, elle préfère observer et prendre le temps de comprendre son environnement avant d’accorder sa confiance. Les interactions doivent être calmes et indirectes, car une approche trop frontale peut encore la rendre inconfortable. Cependant, lorsqu’elle se sent en sécurité — souvent avec l’aide de gâteries ou de crémeux — elle accepte les caresses et semble même les apprécier, particulièrement sur la tête et au bas du dos.
Au fil du temps, Avoine a fait de beaux progrès et continue d’évoluer positivement. Bien qu’elle puisse parfois montrer de légères réactions défensives comme de l’hésitation ou un petit sifflement, elle révèle un tempérament doux dès qu’elle est en confiance. Elle apprécie garder une certaine distance après les moments de contact, mais développe graduellement une relation plus étroite avec l’humain.
Curieuse et espiègle, Avoine aime explorer son environnement, fouiller dans les sacs et s’installer là où bon lui semble — souvent au cœur de l’action. Elle joue à sa façon, alternant entre observation et participation active. L’herbe à chat l’aide à se détendre, et elle affectionne particulièrement les endroits douillets, les hauteurs et les coins ensoleillés, comme le bord d’une fenêtre ou une couverture chauffante.
Avec les autres chats, elle démontre de l’intérêt, mais ses interactions peuvent être un peu maladroites au début. Elle pourrait cohabiter avec un compagnon félin calme, patient et peu réactif, à condition que l’intégration soit faite progressivement. Elle pourrait également être heureuse comme seule compagne. Un foyer sans jeunes enfants est recommandé afin de respecter sa sensibilité et son besoin de tranquillité.
Avoine conviendrait à une personne douce, attentive et prête à respecter son rythme, avec l’envie de bâtir une relation basée sur la confiance. Elle n’est pas une chatte « clé en main », mais pour la bonne personne, elle deviendra une compagne profondément attachante, unique et fascinante.

Elle est stérilisée, vaccinée, micropucée et négative pour le virus de l'immunodéficience féline (VIF) ainsi que la leucose féline (FeLV). Avoine arrived at the shelter in 2021 with her brother, Automne. In June of that year, they were adopted together and lived with their family until 2024. When the family’s lifestyle changed and they could no longer care for them, the cats were returned to the shelter. It was a shock for her.
Avoine is an adult cat with a timid and sensitive temperament who needs gentleness, patience, and respect to truly thrive. Reserved at first, she prefers to observe and take her time understanding her environment before giving her trust. Interactions should be calm and indirect, as overly direct approaches can still make her uncomfortable. However, when she feels safe—often with the help of treats or creamy snacks—she accepts petting and even seems to enjoy it, especially on her head and lower back.
Over time, Avoine has made great progress and continues to evolve positively. Although she may occasionally show mild defensive reactions such as hesitation or a small hiss, she reveals a gentle nature once she feels secure. She tends to keep some distance after interactions but gradually develops a closer bond with her human.
Curious and playful in her own way, Avoine enjoys exploring her environment, rummaging through bags, and settling wherever she pleases—often right in the middle of whatever you’re doing. She plays at her own pace, sometimes observing, sometimes actively participating. Catnip helps her relax, and she especially loves cozy spots, high places, and sunny areas, such as a windowsill or a heated blanket.
With other cats, she shows interest, though her social skills can be a bit awkward at first. She could live with a calm, patient, and non-reactive feline companion, provided introductions are done gradually. She could also do well as a single cat.
A home without young children is recommended to respect her sensitivity and need for calm.
Avoine would be best suited to a gentle, attentive person who is willing to respect her pace and build a relationship based on trust. She is not a “turnkey” cat, but for the right person, she will become a deeply endearing, unique, and fascinating companion.
Avoine is an adult cat, and her adoption fee is $290. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has tested negative for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Six weeks of pet insurance are included with her adoption. You will also have access to support from the adoption team for as long as needed. In addition, you are entitled to a free 30-minute video consultation within the first month after adoption with our feline behavior consultant, FelineGood (
