Koala has been working hard over the past few months to beat the odds, and we are over the moon to announce that she has done it! She survived severe head trauma resulting in proptosed (popped out) eyes, a broken and dislocated jaw, and severe mouth injuries requiring surgical repair. We had to surgically place a longterm feeding tube, which was her lifeline for quite some time while she focused on healing. Due to the extent of her injuries, she suffered an immense amount of blood loss and needed a blood transfusion to save her life, which thankfully, was successful.
She is now eating on her own, navigating life seamlessly as a blind cat, and has recently had perfect bloodwork.
Full transparency, Koala suffered SEVERE head trauma, and while she functions, she’s definitely a little “off” 😬 Her quirks involve occasionally wandering aimlessly, sleeping like she’s always coming off of a 24 hour strenuous shift in the coal mine, and preferring you speak before touching her, as she startles easily these days while still fully adjusting to her acute loss of vision. All things easily accommodated, and after everything she’s been through, truly minor in comparison.
Koala’s favorite human is an 12 year old girl, though I like to think I’m a close second. 😆 She’s currently fostered with kids, cats, and dogs, and as long as they respect her limitations, she’s easy peasy.
Koala is residing in our ICU house, so finding her a home means a new space opens up for the next critical animal in need - so let’s share and help her find her family!
